Carnatic vs Hindustani Khayal Alapanas

Speaking about carnatic + hindustani listen to this wonderful carnatic + hindustani jugalbandhi piece in Ragam Karaharapriya (kafi).

Singers: Sudha Raghunathan, Aparna Panishkar

Song Link: Kahan - Kafi - Karaharapriya
Clearly Sudha dominates the stage, however the alternating solo alapanas, going to a magnificient climax in the alapana and the khayal (kahan karo) makes wonderful listening.

Srini, this by the way is a nice illustration of the improvisations used in the alapanas in Carnatic and Hindustani systems. You can notice that through the fine grained notes (gamakams) that are spilled all over in Sudha's singing (i hope you can recognize her voice, the flatter voice is Aparna's). Notice the swaram singing differences.

This is my favorite recording of Sudha. Excellent impromptu ideas.

If there is sufficient interest, then i will post a nice Suba panthuvarali by these two.. (Todi in Hindustani).
